I’ve narrowed it down to the most probable

Slylock Fox – August 17th, 2013

There are two real ways this could end: the bear saws down the tree, knocking the poor man to the ground. He fights tooth and nail against all common sense, putting up a noble fight as the bear carves him for Thanksgiving dinner. Mark Trail senses an act of animal cruelty and punches him.

Or: the bear carelessly chops off those fingers. Everyone just kinda hangs out.

  1. Ratiocinator says:

I think we’ve misjudged the bear. The poor man is stuck up in the tree. He’s being helpful by cutting it down and sending the guy crashing back to the ground. If he survives, then great. If not, then at least his corpse will be down on the ground where his next of kin can take him away for a proper burial, rather than inaccessibly high above the ground after starving to death up there (and who wants to live near a tree with a decomposing, stinky corpse in it?).

Personally I would be more worried about falling into the “eyes” in the bushes.
