It’s too late for Mr. Fiskykins

Is it weird of me that, even though the explorer is the same distance from the croc in both panels, I get two different impressions? In panel 1, I see him in the process of being saved. If his buddy doesn’t fly any faster, the crocodile will be having foot soup tonight. The fish skeleton is a reminder of the croc’s victims.

In panel 2, he has been saved in the nick of time. The crocodile has no chance, and the adventurer has been rescued. The fish skeleton cheers, “way to go!”
